Lotus Gem Workshops

Lotus Gem Workshops

The Lotus Gem Workshop (LGW) is a means to building a peaceful and harmonious environment in which people may live in ultimate goodness. If practised earnestly, one may eradicate one’s self-attachment. The workshop comprises three basic operational procedures: 1. three to five persons should form a group; 2. everyone speaks in turn on the deliberation subject for three to five minutes; 3. during the workshop, one’s attitude should be to “listen respectfully, appreciate, and accept.” When applied at home, this is the home lotus gem workshop, which may facilitate full communication among family members, prevent children in revolt and opposition, and promote family harmony. For details, please refer to Ven. Haiyun Jimeng's book The Beckoning Home to Life 4: Living like a spoiled brat. Taipei: K’ung T’ing Publishing, 2004. Chapter 12: Home Lotus Gem Workshop.

The LGW consists of both technical and developmental aspects. The technical aspect refers to the acquisition of skills, knowhow, methods through reading assigned Huayen dharma materials and participating in LGWs during which one learns to listen, appreciate, and accept the views of fellow members in the study group. Members are required to write what they have learned from these three aspects of learning, all of which help the person break the ego. The designated group leader collects all written work and compiles them for distribution and study. The developmental aspect refers to the application of such skills in all aspects of daily life. ABCBC runs periodical LGWs in lively one-hour sessions.
